Practice Philosophies

Dr. Tippins is committed to providing you with the tools that assist you in understanding yourself better, making clearer choices, noticing the patterns of your life, and finding the words to express those forgotten aspects of yourself.

Dr. Tippins has been profoundly influenced by the work of Melanie Klein, Wilfred Bion, and other theorists from the British Object Relations field of study in psychodynamic psychotherapy.

The major impact of using a psychodynamic approach to psychotherapy is the ability to pay attention to subtle shifts of thinking, expression, transference, regression, and other movements that happen in the therapy session. It often means that Dr. Tippins will attempt to interpret and understand what the patient is speaking about, in both a conscious way and unconscious way. It is what Freud called Talking Cure. Therapy, at its best, is a methodical process of getting to the core of the dilemma.

-Psychodynamic psychotherapy works-

There are many therapies that apply the notion of a quick fix, solutions oriented short term therapy, or cognitive answers to deeply rooted problems. Dr. Tippins is aware of many of the trainings involved with short term work, and has used the skills and techniques in his work with clients- but he firmly believes that the heart and soul of therapy is in the relationship between the patient and the therapist- and this seldom occurs in rapid or short term process. The implied commitment between therapist and patient in psychodynamic therapy is significant. The power of the commitment to the work is what therapy is all about. In group, couples, or individual sessions, Dr. Carl Allen Tippins is committed to assisting you in understanding and knowing yourself better.
